OP SHOP NEWS
The shop and warehouse are still operating well and we have plenty of stock for both. The large wooden bin (which we refer to as the “dump table”) in the centre of the shop had summer tops for 50 cents each just prior to and after Christmas, we then displayed shoes for two weeks at half marked price and we are currently selling all bags at half marked price. These spot sales mean that we can clear excess stock reasonably quickly and our customers enjoy getting a bargain. We are planning to hold an end of summer sale soon to clear the majority of our last remaining summer items and will then commence with warmer clothes for Autumn. The shop carpet was steam cleaned at the end of January and the committee spent time cleaning shelves and cabinets for the start of the New Year. We have had a couple of new volunteers begin working with us in the shop and welcome them to our team. We are always looking for new volunteers and are always pleased to hear from those who are willing to commit a few hours of their time once or twice a month. Sorting in the warehouse during the very hot days was hard work but had to be done and the volunteers battled on to keep the floor clear at all times. Just after Christmas is our busiest time for some reason and the volume of incoming stock is quite daunting at times. The warehouse team do a fantastic job and I think they deserve a medal for working so hard during the very hot weather. The shop end of the warehouse is absolutely full of different items both large and small and it is very interesting browsing around. We are currently planning to build a mezzanine floor over the kitchen and offices in the new warehouse for storage as believe it or not we are presently running out storage space and with so many people working there now it is too dangerous to have boxes and bags lying around on the floor. We had four garage sales on the four Saturday mornings prior to Christmas which were very successful. We have also decided to open the warehouse to the public every 3rd Saturday morning (same morning as Drouin market) from 8am until 12 noon which enables people to visit the warehouse should they not be able to pay a visit during the week. Our van is available for any pick up of goods on Tuesday or Thursday mornings so please do not hesitate to contact me if we can help you in any way. The Pleasant Sunday Afternoon concerts which are an op shop project are pleased to announce the return of the retirees brass band the “Huffers and Puffers” who will perform on Sunday 21st March commencing at 2pm. They performed for us about a year ago and were very entertaining. Entry is by gold coin donation which includes afternoon tea in the Parish Hall afterwards. Please put this date in your diary as we would love to see you there.
